🌟Spotlight Local of the Week:
Pierson Phipps🌟

At just 17, Pierson Phipps of Benton, LA has spent more than half his life giving back. Since 3rd grade, he’s volunteered at the Feed the Homeless event, held every Saturday behind First Methodist Church in downtown Shreveport (volunteers arrive at 8:45 a.m.).
In middle school, Pierson noticed many people at the event carrying their belongings in trash bags which sparked an idea: he began collecting gently used backpacks from friends and neighbors. What started small has grown into an annual Backpack Drive, with a big distribution planned for September 20th during the Feed the Homeless event. For Pierson, the reward is simple: “The smiles on their faces mean a lot.”
Beyond his service work, Pierson is active at Benton High School in Beta Club, National Honor Society, Tennis, and the RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) Club.
You can support Pierson’s mission by donating backpacks at these local drop-off spots:
📍 Brewer Physical Therapy – 4970 Barksdale Blvd
📍 No Ceilings CrossFit – 502 Anderson Ave
📍 Alexander & Co – 603 Absinthe Ct C
📍 Mall St. Vincent – 1133 St. Vincent Ave
Or donate via Venmo: @piersonphipps3
Way to go Pierson! Keep being great!

✍🏼 Side Notes & City Talk
Summer Grove Baptist Church will soon vote on what to do with the former South Park Mall property, potentially shaping the site’s future.
Shreveport could soon get a $10 million pickleball complex next to the Lash Family YMCA if approved this month. See what it could look like if it passes.
I know we don’t do politics, but when California’s governor compares us to San Francisco… our mayor’s got the receipts; crime’s down and we’re on the right track.
