TOGETHER WITH

☀️SBC! This week felt like nonstop rain boots and flood alerts, Louisiana really said “stay inside.” 🌧️ Hope everyone stayed safe through all the water and chaos. Between the flooding and 50 Cent doing a public Q&A, how did y’all hold up? (I actually do read your email replies.🙂)

In this issue, we’ll shine light on:

  • Your local spot for nostalgic games

  • Finding your purpose through service

  • “Groundbreaking“ news

Let’s get our shine on!

📍5804 Line Ave

If you've got a kid (or let's be honest, you're an adult who misses the old school board games), you'll want to keep an eye on Learning Express Toys of Shreveport. This locally owned toy store is packed with unique gifts, games, crafts, collectibles, and some of the hottest toys around.

And yes, the squishies are in stock! If your house is anything like mine, you know these things disappear fast. From sensory toys to trendy collectibles, Learning Express is one of those places where it's nearly impossible to leave empty-handed.

If you're hunting for a hard-to-find item, looking for a birthday gift, or trying to stay ahead of the latest toy craze, be sure to follow their Facebook page. They regularly post updates when new products arrive, giving followers first dibs before popular items sell out.

☀️ This Week’s Happy Highlights

G-Dome Breaks Ground in Downtown Shreveport

Shreveport took another step toward a major entertainment destination with the groundbreaking of the G-Dome, a planned downtown venue backed by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. The project is expected to host concerts, performances, and special events while contributing to downtown revitalization efforts. Community leaders hope the G-Dome will attract visitors, create economic opportunities, and add new energy to Shreveport's growing entertainment scene.

🩺 Grant Supports Future RNs

Bossier Parish Community College received a $300,000 H.E.R.O. Fund grant to launch a rural LPN-to-RN apprenticeship program. The initiative will help 20 nurses advance their careers while addressing regional workforce shortages and expanding healthcare access in underserved northwest Louisiana communities.

Lunch & Discover Makes a Strong Debut

Downtown Shreveport's new Lunch & Discover series got off to a strong start, bringing together local businesses, live music, food tastings, networking opportunities, and community members. Hosted at 400 Texas, the event showcased downtown's growing energy while encouraging residents, workers, and visitors to explore and support local businesses. The next Lunch & Discover event is scheduled for July 1 at Vine Books & Vinyl.

Side Notes & City Talk

Shreveport native and professional golfer Sam Burns finished second at the 126th U.S. Open, delivering an impressive performance and earning one of the best major championship finishes of his career.

The Bossier Parish School Board unanimously approved a second pay raise in just over a year, increasing permanent supplements for all full-time employees and boosting starting teacher pay to $53,509 for the 2026-27 school year.

Look out for multiple lane closures beginning this week in Caddo Parish. DOTD released further info here.

The Bossier Chamber is giving businesses two ways to support local schools: donating supplies through the Pack the Bus drive and welcoming new teachers with sponsored goodie bags.
