☀️ This Week’s Happy Highlights

Spreading Winter Warmth

Porter’s Dry Cleaners spread some big-hearted warmth this winter by giving out 1,500 coats to families in the Shreveport-Bossier area as part of their long-running community tradition. Over two months, they collected coats, distributed 900 through local schools, and handed out the rest at a community event with sizes for babies through adults. One past recipient even returned decades later to thank them, now bringing his own children.

Big Smiles for Bus Drivers

Sometimes it’s the simple thank-yous that mean the most. This week, Live! in the Community with the Cares Krewe surprised local SporTran bus drivers and staff with treats and kind words to show appreciation for the work they do every single day. From early mornings to long routes, these drivers help keep families, students, and workers moving. It was a sweet reminder that a little gratitude can go a long way in brightening someone’s day.

✍🏼 Side Notes & City Talk

👶Meet SBC’s first baby of 2026: Christus Shreveport-Bossier welcomed the year’s very first newborn on New Year’s Day, bringing joy to the family and hospital staff alike.

💚 The Cares Krewe teamed up with Walmart and the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program to play “holiday elves,” shopping for and delivering gifts to local children in need.

🏈  Lavelle Wilson Jr. was hired as the new head football coach at Woodlawn High School. What are you most excited to see from Coach Wilson and the Woodlawn Panthers this season?

🏥 Stonewall’s Jess Migues urgently needs a heart transplant, and her family is asking the community for support. Learn how to help here.

🫱🏼‍🫲🏾 The African-American History Parade is Saturday, February 7 in downtown Shreveport. Groups and families can sign up to march or ride by submitting a participation form or business application to sponsor.
