Happy New Year!

☀️SBC! Below you will see a blurred screenshot from my 2025 goals list, written one year ago. (That blur isn’t for style. It’s for dignity 😅)

Let’s be honest. Not everything on that list happened. BUT one thing did.

“Write a business plan.”

That goal turned into On the Bright Side. It’s continuously growing because of you. The subscribers, the shares, the local support, and the encouragement along the way.

Some goals got delayed. Some are still sitting on the list.
This one showed up. And I’m grateful you showed up with it.

Thank you for being part of this community. 💛

Local Spotlight: A Day at the Movies

This week, a local neighbor (who chose to remain anonymous) partnered with Common Ground Community Inc. to do something simple and special. They treated a group of local kids to see the new movie, David.

On the Bright Side was honored to join them, popcorn and all, and enjoy the movie alongside the kids. There was laughter, wide eyes, and that quiet moment afterward when a story really sticks with you.

If you’re looking for a meaningful outing, this is a great one to take kids to see. David shares a powerful message of courage, faith, and perseverance in a way that’s engaging and accessible for young viewers.

Big thanks to those who quietly step up to create moments like this. Sometimes the brightest things happen when no one is looking. 💛

☀️ This Week’s Happy Highlights

LA Tech Brings the Fun Before the Bowl to Holy Angels

LA Tech is in town for the Independence Bowl on Tuesday, but first, they stopped by Holy Angels for a fun day with the residents. The team played basketball, tossed the football, and shared plenty of laughs. It was a simple, feel-good way to connect and brighten everyone’s day, proving that sometimes the best plays happen off the field.

Renesting Project Brings Homes and Hope in 2025

2025 has been a year of generosity and impact for the community. From Pop Up Auctions to Renest Fest, over $114,000 was raised to support local families in need. Through these efforts, 193 dwellings became homes, 436 adults and children received essential furnishings, nearly 1,700 pieces of furniture were redistributed, and 2,846+ household items were given. Thanks to donors, volunteers, and supporters, countless Shreveport-Bossier families experienced hope and comfort this year.

Christmas Breakfast for Those on Duty

Local businesses and volunteers in Shreveport-Bossier came together to serve breakfast and lunch to first responders working on Christmas Day. Firefighters, police officers, and EMS personnel were treated to home-cooked meals and holiday cheer, showing the community’s gratitude for their service. The effort included contributions from multiple groups across the area, bringing warmth and smiles to those on duty. It was a heartfelt reminder that even during busy holidays, acts of kindness make a big impact.

✍🏼 Side Notes & City Talk

🎄 Finished with your Christmas tree and not sure what to do with it? Don’t toss it! Check out Keep Bossier Beautiful’s drop-off locations to recycle your live tree and give it a second life. Let’s keep our community clean and green this holiday season!

A cold front is moving into the area, bringing gusty winds and a noticeable drop in temperatures. Expect colder conditions to stick around as the region heads into the end of the week and the New Year.

The Huntington Lady Raiders girl’s basketball team is gearing up for another strong season after last year’s state title win. With key players returning, they’re hoping to make another championship run.
