From Shreveport, With Love: Your First OTBS Edition!

TOGETHER WITH

☀️SBC! Welcome to the very first edition of On the Bright Side — where the only thing brighter than your inbox is the community we’re celebrating.
This space was created with one goal: to celebrate the good in our neighborhoods, our people, and our everyday moments.
In this week’s edition, we’ll shine light on:
SCU’s Queensborough Resource Rally- May 10
40 Under 40 Nomination Deadline
New medical GPS technology breakthrough in SBC
Let’s get our shine on!
(Also, happy Cinco de Mayo! 🪇)
Partnered with Shreveport Citizens United

One Priority: Reduce Violence and Crime in Shreveport
Shreveport’s crime crisis is about more than numbers — it’s about young lives at risk, broken opportunities, and communities that need healing. That’s why Shreveport Citizens United (SCU) is focused on one mission: reducing violence and crime by building relationships that change lives.
At the heart of their efforts is mentorship — pairing at-risk youth with trusted adults who can guide them toward brighter futures. But you don’t have to be a mentor to make a difference.
The easiest way to get involved? Volunteer at a Resource Rally.
These community-powered events bring together local nonprofits, neighbors, and resources in one place — making it easy to connect, support, and take action.
📍 Next rally: May 10 at Bilberry Park in Queensborough.
Join SCU and others working to uplift Shreveport, one neighborhood at a time.

FEATURED EVENT OF THE WEEK
Y’all asked for it, you drank it, and now it’s here to stay — Kajun Kolsch is joining the big leagues! So naturally… we throw a party like only Louisiana can.
11AM-10 PM @ The Seventh Tap- Linwood
Here’s what’s going down:
🎶 Live music to keep your feet tappin’
🧢 Brand spankin’ new Kajun Kolsch merch (yes, there are hats. Yes, you need one.)
🍽️ Food truck eats that'll make your taste buds dance
🦞 A good ol’ crawfish boil (pre-sale tickets 👈)
Mark your calendar, bring your appetite, and get ready to raise a glass of the beer that screams Cajun pride with a crisp finish. 🍻
🦞 Got somethin’ boilin’? Let us spread the word! Send it here.

If you know a young professional who’s out here adulting like a boss—crushing goals, leading with heart, volunteering like it’s their side hustle, and somehow still managing to function before coffee—they NEED to be on the 2025 40 Under 40 list.
This is your official reminder that nominations close Friday, May 9 at 5 PM sharp. That’s right—no fashionably late entries!
So, if someone just popped into your head (yes, them), go ahead and give them the shout-out they deserve. Nominate them now and let’s celebrate the go-getters, dream chasers, and future mayors of brunch.
📅 Nomination Deadline: Friday, May 9 at 5 PM
In case you missed the good stuff…
(It gets overlooked sometimes.)

During Love the Boot Week, nearly 27,000 volunteers kicked trash—literally! Ya’ll cleaned up 514 tons of litter, planted trees, fixed up gardens, and even recycled over 16,000 bottles and cans across all 64 parishes. Huge thanks to everyone who pitched in-let’s keep showing Louisiana some love all year long! 💚
Shreveport Police Department is getting a shiny new police substation at West 70th and St. Vincent—right next to the bus hub! The playground’s staying put, and everything should be wrapped up by summer 2026. It’s a big win for safety, good vibes, and keeping Southeast Shreveport feeling like home!
Pet Savers of Shreveport recently announced they are celebrating 150 adoptions in 2025! That’s 150 pets who’ve gone from ruff to ready for their new homes! 🐾 Want to help save even more? Donate during Give for Good—it’s the purr-fect way to support the rescue’s efforts and help place more pets in loving homes!
Dak Prescott’s decade-long dream is now a reality at Haughton High! His $1.1 million donation has brought a brand-new football facility with a top-notch weight room, locker rooms, and a film room. This facility will boost the team’s game and leave a lasting legacy. Still not a Cowboys fan, but we’ll let it slide for the kids!
