Events Are Poppin' This Week

TOGETHER WITH

☀️SBC! We’ve got Mudbug Madness kicking off this week! Ya’ll know what that means! Get ready for Formula One Powerboats and the locally loved Mudbug Madness 5K! Sign up to run here.

In regard to my Bone Daddy’s question last week, it was actually called Smoky Bones, (Thanks, Guy) and now I feel validated.

In this issue, we’ll shine light on:

  • Build your summer bod for FREE next week

  • Local kiddos showing out!

  • Events galore!

Let’s get our shine on!

As this school year comes to an end, we all know it’s never too early to be prepared, that’s why Roy's Kids is once again stepping up to support local students and families through their annual school supply drive. They are now accepting donations to help make sure children head back to class prepared, confident, and ready to learn. Every donation, big or small, helps ease the burden for families and gives students the tools they need for a successful school year. If you’ve been looking for a simple way to give back locally, this is a great opportunity to make a direct impact right here in our community.

Current needs include:

🎒 Clear backpacks
📓 Notebooks and folders
🖍️ Crayons and markers
🧴 Glue
✏️ Ticonderoga #2 pencils

Donations are being accepted now at 2601 Highland Ave.

In Partnership with No Ceilings CrossFit

Thinking about working on your summer bod but don’t want to do it alone? No Ceilings CrossFit is making it easy with Bring a Friend Week: May 25-31. Grab a friend and come work out FREE all week long. It’s a great chance to check out the gym, meet the community, and see what all the hype is about without any pressure.

Plus, it’s more than just workouts. Members and guests can enjoy the sauna and cold plunge while they’re there. And parents, they’ve thought about you too. Kids workouts are offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:30 p.m., so your little ones can stay active while you get your workout in too.

Community Resource of the Week

Cohab is an incredible local resource with emphasis on helping entrepreneurs, small businesses, creatives, and community leaders connect, grow, and bring new ideas to life in Shreveport-Bossier. Through coworking spaces, business programs, networking opportunities, and community events, they continue to create a space where innovation and collaboration thrive locally.

Southwood Grad Makes History

Southwood High School is celebrating Christopher Lemar Daniel II, the first student in school history to earn an associate degree from Southern University at Shreveport (SUSLA) while still in high school. He completed both milestones through hard work and dedication, calling it the beginning of his academic journey. What an awesome accomplishment!

WPN Awards $80K in Grants

The Women’s Philanthropy Network (WPN), founded in 2005, is a collective giving group dedicated to improving the lives of children in Caddo Parish. At its May 12 annual meeting at Ronald McDonald House, members voted to award $80,000 in grants to three nonprofits:

  • Volunteers for Youth Justice (VYJ) – $60,000

  • Basic Necessities – $10,000

  • Girls Empowered for More Society, Inc. (GEMS) – $10,000

Since its inception, WPN has granted over $1.7 million to local educational initiatives and continues building impact through a growing endowment of more than $700,000, managed by the Community Foundation of North Louisiana.

Side Notes & City Talk

Shreveport-Bossier was named a 2026 Great American Defense Community for its strong support of Barksdale Air Force Base, military families, workforce programs, and community partnerships.

Bossier Chamber hosted the National Civics Bee in Bossier City, where middle schoolers competed in civics knowledge, essays, and ideas for community improvement.

Louisiana lawmakers voted to end vehicle inspection stickers, aiming to simplify car ownership and reduce hassle for drivers, replacing it with a new QR code system.

Keep Bossier Beautiful invites residents to contribute to a 2026 time capsule celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, preserving letters, photos, and memorabilia for future generations project.
