Bright Side Impact’s first partnership event

We joined Girls Empowered for More Society, Inc. for their Self-Care Saturday at the R.W. Norton Art Gallery, where the girls experienced lawn yoga, nature sketching & painting, and writing letters to their future selves.

Thank you to the amazing Women of Impact volunteers, Caitlynn Traylor - Copeland's Catering for donating lunch, and Toccara Huckaby for making this collaboration possible!

Women’s LeadHERship Conference Sparks Community Motivation

More than 100 women, students, and community leaders gathered at LSU Shreveport for the Women in LeadHERship Conference, focused on growth, resilience, and real-life balance. Speakers shared powerful insights on overcoming “invisible exhaustion,” setting boundaries, and redefining success. The event created space for connection, encouragement, and honest conversations, reminding attendees they don’t have to do it all alone and that thriving starts with taking care of themselves.

Local Teacher Receives Grant to Boost Classroom Creativity

Tracy Callahan, a K-5 STEM teacher at Walnut Hill School in Shreveport, received a $1,000 grant through the Calumet Cares initiative to bring more hands-on, creative learning into her classroom. The funding will boost STEM lessons with interactive, real-world activities that get students thinking and building. It’s another great example of our local teachers going above and beyond to make learning exciting, meaningful, and something kids look forward to every day.

🎣 LSUS fishing team recently participated in the Collegiate Bass Championship. Go behind the scenes with them on the water.

💰 Crews installed the first girders on the new Jimmie Davis Bridge, marking major progress on the $361 million project to expand traffic capacity and improve flow. The bridge is projected to open mid-late 2027.

🎾 Bossier City Tennis Center hosted a multi-state 70+ tennis tournament, drawing nearly 300 players and teams from several southern states for competitive weekend matches.

⚾ Benton baseball extended its win streak with a 17-13 high-scoring win over Haughton, powered by strong offense and key performances in another dominant district showing.

🩺 Ochsner LSU Health will raise its minimum wage to $15 per hour starting May 31, 2026, supporting employee financial well-being and workforce retention.

🥁 Street performers can entertain in downtown Shreveport with a $30 permit, following rules on location, noise, and donations. Performances run 10 AM-10 PM; apply online or call 318‑222‑7403.
